Your one-way ticket to the Locavore Lifestyle

Return trip? You won’t want it, or need it. Trust me.

When I first began working in small-town Ontario, Municipal Government specifically, my job consisted of constant interactions with small, independent, local businesses.

Being exposed first-hand to the hard work, dedication and perseverance required to become an entrepreneur is astounding. Now to become a successful entrepreneur? That’s where the blood, sweat and tears comes in.

Statistics show that while a healthy 96 per cent of businesses survive the first year, 85 per cent survive the first three years and that number drops to 70 per cent after the first five years. Taking that into consideration it is important to note that on average, it takes two to three years for a successful business to break even. There is an unimaginable amount of passion and determination involved for someone to become an entrepreneur knowing those numbers before taking the leap.

This brings me back around to my purpose for this blog. I do not have the confidence in my ability nor the passion for anything great enough to make the decision to become an entrepreneur. So what is my goal? Support, understanding and appreciation. I want to communicate that doing small things such as supporting local by purchasing one product at a small, local business can make a huge impact. Understanding that referring a friend to a shop in your community can make the difference in an entrepreneur’s livelihood. And appreciating that taking your money to a shop owned by a some loving parents putting their kids through university, or an elderly woman living her dream or a man continuing the inherited family business is much bigger than just a sale.

The money that you spend locally instead of globally directly impacts your community because every single dollar spent local is returned to your local economy. This affects the services that are locally provided and the health of the community as a whole.

You and your money have the power to make this difference. So join the Locavore Nation and inspire others to do the same. Love, live and experience local, for the betterment of your community.
